Our Daily Bread
“Completely free and quietly complete: short daily readings, a full Bible, audio, and video, in 20+ languages.”
Our Daily Bread is the quiet overachiever of devotional apps. It is completely free, backed by a ministry whose printed devotional has been a household staple since 1938, and it packs in far more than its humble reputation suggests. The daily reading is short and warm, offering a biblical insight, a reflection question, and a guided prayer, but around it sits a genuinely full-featured Bible app: a built-in Bible in 20+ languages and translations like NIV, KJV, ESV, and NLT, so you can move between devotion and Scripture without leaving the app.
The extras are where it quietly outclasses paid competitors. There is daily audio narration, an in-app Evening Meditations podcast, video devotionals, and a library of customizable reading plans including Bible in a Year and topical studies for different seasons of life. Personalization is thoughtful too, with adjustable fonts and background colors, bookmarks, reminders, and light gamification through streaks and badges to keep the habit going. For a free app, the breadth is genuinely impressive.
The trade-offs are modest. Community is minimal, since this is a personal-devotion app rather than a social one, and the daily reading, while lovely, is intentionally brief rather than a deep verse-by-verse study. The design is clean and functional rather than flashy, so it won't wow you the way a premium app might. But if you want a trustworthy, multilingual, genuinely complete daily devotional without ever reaching for your wallet, Our Daily Bread is one of the best values in the entire category.
