There is a real difference between a school and a course provider, and it decides most of what follows.
An accredited online academy enrolls your student. It assigns the teacher, keeps the grades, issues the transcript, and hands over a diploma at the end. Families reach for that when a transcript has to be recognized by someone else, or when a subject has outrun what a parent wants to teach. It costs the most and gives up the most control over the schedule.
A course provider sells you one subject at a time. You stay the school of record, you keep the grades, and you use their teaching for the part you did not want to handle alone. High school science, upper math, and Latin are the usual reasons. It costs less and it bends around your schedule. Nobody else vouches for the credit.
Listings here say which of the two a provider is, whether the accreditation is real and who granted it, and what a year actually costs once fees are added.
