Curriculum is what you teach. These are the tools that keep track of it.

Two jobs come up over and over. The first is planning: laying out the year, moving a missed lesson to Thursday without redoing the whole schedule, and seeing at a glance what each kid has left. The second is records: attendance, grades, hours, and a transcript that will hold up when your state asks for it or a college does. Some tools do both well. Many do one and treat the other as an afterthought, so it is worth knowing which one you are buying.

State law drives this decision more than any feature list. A family in a state with no reporting requirement can run the year on a paper notebook. A family in a state that wants attendance and a portfolio needs software that exports something. Where a tool is built around one state's rules, the review says so.
