“Logos is for a serious Bible scholar and worth paying for if you want to study the Bible for yourself and like to do that with the assistance of digital technology over paper resources. Bible Project is the best Bible study assistance if you want specific information or teaching on books of the Bible or broad theological themes, history, etc. it’s different from Right Now Media, because it produces all of its own content and doesn’t veer off into entertainment. Right now media seems like it’s as much Christian entertainment as it is strict Bible study material. Olive Tree and Blue Letter Bible might be easier to navigate if you spend more time with them, but it would be easy to get turned off with a first experience.”

“This seems like a great tool and is sponsored by big names in christian media. I have heard good things about it, but it was hard to explore much within the app because I don’t pay for it.”

“This is a great app for people looking for a variety of resources to help explain what they are reading. There is a variety of podcasts, articles and videos. There is not much for someone looking to do their own exegetical reading of scripture within the app.”

+Right Now media has teaching resources that would be great to view as a small group or Bible study. It’s slightly different from Bible Project because it has entertainment, as well.
–RightNow Media is not great for a personal exegetical study of scripture. The range of theology is also broad, which may be good or bad depending on what you’re looking for.

On the designThere wasn’t a good home page. I wasn’t sure what the main function of the app was.
What you get freeThe reading plans and cross referencing worked without paying. You could also link to some free sites, like the Bible Project, to get a few free resources. My sense is that I needed to pay to get better functionality within the app.
Did a paywall hit?There were options to get charged for many additional resources, like commentaries and study tools
Study typeA lot of the functionality that I saw listed in the App Store was not easily found when spending time in the app. I’m assuming it’s because they are add ons for purchase?
Resource library sizeDictionaries, commentaries, versions of other bibles and a variety of reading plans. For some of the items below (like the videos) they are accessed from other sites (like Bible Project)

“Apart from providing an extensive commentary library (text and audio) and a somewhat clunky daily Bible reading plan, I’m not sure what value this app brings. I couldn’t even figure out quickly how to take notes. There appears to be a lot of functionality, but it’s difficult to access and once you navigate to a new page it’s not clear how you get back to where you were prior.”

+Blue Letter Bible has the benefit of being free and, yet, still provides a lot of functionality for studying your Bible.
–The format of the app is not very intuitive and feels a bit clunky/challenging to navigate, at least at first.
