Type the Word
“Typing Scripture word by word makes you notice what reading lets you skim past.”
Type the Word grew out of one developer's personal habit, typing through the Psalms over six months and noticing how much more closely he read the text. That origin shows: it is a focused, elegant web app that has you type Scripture passage by passage, with progress tracking, goals, and a clean typing-practice feel. Slowing down to type each word really does surface phrases you would skim past when reading.
It is free, refreshingly ad-free, and supported by donations rather than a paywall. It offers nine translations, tracks your progress across the Bible, and has expanded into classroom use through Google Classroom and a Christian Schools platform. As a distraction-free way to sit with the text and reinforce it through active typing, it is a delight, and its narrow focus is a feature, not a bug.
That focus is also the ceiling. This is a typing tool first and a memory system second, there is no spaced-repetition engine surfacing verses for review over time, and it is web-only with no native mobile app, so phone typing is workable but not the point. Treat it as a wonderful companion to a dedicated memory app or a daily discipline in its own right, rather than a complete memorization solution.
Is it right for you?
People who focus and retain best by typing, and who want a calm, ad-free daily discipline in the browser. A natural fit for classrooms and as a companion to a dedicated memory app.
You need scheduled spaced-repetition review, a native mobile app, or a full memorization system rather than a focused typing tool.
